Through recent innovations like Change Tracking, New Relic provides data-driven insights that optimize deployment lifecycles. This includes complete visibility into deployments and change events across the entire stack. With a focus on end-to-end observability, New Relic drives enhanced performance, scalability, and responsiveness, catering to the dynamic needs of modern businesses.

To know more, Mr. Marquis Fernandes, who is Head of Business at Quantic India indulges in a conversation with Mr. Pradeep Seshadri who is the Head of Solutions Consulting, India at New Relic. Pradeep has over 20 years of experience in Solutions Consulting, and helped many Fortune 500 companies on their journey to modernize technology, process, and culture. Prior to New Relic, he held different positions at Commvault, Dell, and NetApp, aiding customers across various industries in adopting cutting-edge technologies. At New Relic, he currently leads the Solutions Consulting and Customer Adoption team in India and South Asia, dedicated to improving customer experiences through observability.

  1. Can you provide an overview of New Relic’s role in the DevOps ecosystem and how it supports organisations in their digital transformation journeys?

New Relic plays a pivotal role in the DevOps ecosystem by providing real-time insights and analytics, enabling organisations to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise their applications and infrastructure. Some of New Relic’s recent innovations, such as Change Tracking, enables DevOps teams to optimise and enhance critical parts of their deployment lifecycle through data driven insights. It gives engineers complete visibility into deployments and change events, across their entire stack.

New Relic supports digital transformation by fostering a culture of end-to-end observability, facilitating enhanced performance, scalability, and responsiveness, crucial for evolving business needs.

  1. New Relic recently announced some updates and enhancements to its platform. Can you highlight some key features that are particularly beneficial for DevOps teams and their continuous improvement efforts?

Vulnerability Management and Interactive Application Security Testing offers out of the box actionable security insights in the context of your observability data. Vulnerability Management helps to stop accidental vulnerabilities and unify security insights for DevOps, SREs, and InfoSec teams, while Interactive Application Security Testing helps engineers easily identify vulnerabilities in real-time across all layers of the application stack.

We also believe that generative AI has the potential to revolutionize the observability industry. That is why we have made generative AI-driven observability a key focus and developed New Relic Grok, the first GenAI observability assistant, which allows engineers to interact with their telemetry data using natural language prompts. This will streamline incident response, aiding DevOps teams in refining their continuous improvement efforts and ensuring optimal service delivery.

  1. Monitoring and observability have become integral to DevOps practices. How does New Relic help organizations effectively monitor and gain insights into their applications and infrastructure?

New Relic has been a market leader in empowering organizations for over a decade with advanced observability solutions, allowing them to gain deep insights into user experience, application performance, and infrastructure health. This allows for proactive issue resolution, ensuring system reliability and optimal user experience, which are crucial for effective DevOps practices.

  1. In the fast-paced world of software development and deployment, what unique capabilities does New Relic offer to assist DevOps teams in quickly identifying and resolving performance issues?

While the entire New Relic platform is centered around providing effective data driven insights into various aspects of software performance; I specifically want to talk about two key features for this:

  • Change Tracking: In today’s world of fast paced deployments, tracking impact of each change becomes even more crucial. Change Tracking allows you to do exactly that, using this engineers can immediately identify impact of changes and how it has affected their performance and user experience.
  • Applied Intelligence: In cases of major outages and incidents, teams often struggle with alert fatigue and indecisiveness on what to action upon. With our AI driven applied intelligence, we automatically correlate related incidents and give engineers a single consolidated issue to action up with a probable root cause as well.
  1. New Relic emphasises the importance of telemetry data. Could you explain how organisations can harness this data to make informed decisions and optimise their DevOps processes?

I often tell my customers “Observability is as good as the data you feed it”. Telemetry data forms the basis of all the correlated insights and analytics we are able to provide as part of our platform. Hence Telemetry data becomes crucial for informed decision making. This empowers organisations to then leverage this advanced analytics data to gain insights into system performance, user experience, enhancing resource utilisation, and ensuring delivery of high-quality software.

  1. With the rise of microservices and containerisation, how does New Relic adapt to support these modern application architectures and assist DevOps teams in managing complexity?

New Relic’s rapid pace of innovation keeps adapting to modern application architectures by providing specialised solutions for them. Our platform features like Distributed Tracing, Application Performance Monitoring automatic correlation, and end-to-end service maps allow for a seamless analytics experience for engineers, and enhanced troubleshooting for complex setups.

  1. Security is a significant concern in DevOps environments. How does New Relic address security considerations, and what measures are in place to protect sensitive data within the platform?

We offer in-product solutions like Vulnerability Management & Interactive Application Security Testing which gives in context security insights right from your APM agent without any additional instrumentation. This gives Developers and DevOps engineers the insights to be personally accountable for security within their tech stack early in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). It addresses security considerations in DevOps environments by providing visibility into security vulnerabilities and enabling prompt remediation, safeguarding sensitive data and maintaining platform integrity.

On data security, New Relic prioritizes security by implementing stringent data protection measures, including encryption for data at rest, data in transit, and role based access controls.

Apart from this there are also in-built features within the platform like drop rules, data obfuscation, and high security mode which allows for teams to hide/mask/drop sensitive data from their telemetry.

  1. Collaboration is key to DevOps success. Can you share examples of how New Relic facilitates collaboration among development, operations, and other teams, ultimately fostering a culture of continuous improvement?

New Relic fosters collaboration by providing a unified platform where development, operations, and other teams can interact and share insights. With recent features to add comments, collaborate, assign issues and much more, we are promoting a culture of continuous improvement by enabling cross-functional alignment, streamlined communication, and collective problem-solving, essential for achieving DevOps success.
