Q1. As someone building India’s first AI-native debt marketplace, how do you differentiate between practical automation and hype-driven AI trends when designing system architectures?
In a domain as critical as debt financing, automation must always be grounded in verifiability and ROI. We differentiate hype from practicality by starting with outcome-first problem framing, asking “Will this tangibly reduce turnaround time, improve underwriting accuracy, or enhance borrower-lender experience?” If the answer is unclear, we park the idea. For example, instead of directly adopting flashy agent stacks, we’ve focused on composable agents that solve business-primitive tasks like parsing financials, classifying borrower risk, or drafting lender memos.
Architecturally, this means balancing experimentation with containment. We design “LLM-boundaries”, wrappers around AI components that allow hot-swapping models or fallbacks to deterministic logic. So even if a GenAI layer fails, the transaction continues without user-facing impact. This blend of modularity and ruthless practicality keeps us immune to trends while still staying innovative.
Q2. You’ve spoken about ‘Agentic AI’ in capital access, can you walk us through a recent real-world implementation where autonomous AI agents improved a financial workflow?
One recent implementation we’re proud of is an autonomous borrower assistant agent that triages incoming documents (bank statements, GST, MCA data), classifies them by entity, extracts the relevant metrics, and prepares deal-ready underwriting inputs. What used to take analysts few days per case now run in a few hours, with the agent making intelligent decisions, e.g., tagging multiple banking entities under a single entity or flagging anomalies in revenue reconciliation.
The key was not just in using LLMs, but in chaining them with embedded financial rules, vectorized memory of past borrower data, and confidence thresholds for triggering human oversight. This isn’t just automation; it’s augmentation, allowing our analysts to focus on exceptions, not repetition.
Q3. Given your experience across distributed systems in telecom, fintech, and consumer tech, how do you think AI-native infrastructure should evolve for high-throughput financial applications?
AI-native infrastructure for finance must evolve from being model-centric to pipeline-centric. In high-throughput setups, the bottleneck isn’t just inference, it’s data ingestion, orchestration, fallback logic, and auditability. That’s why we’ve moved from monolithic scoring engines to event-driven agent pipelines built on Step Functions, Bedrock, and OpenSearch-based embeddings.
Resilience is another key. Financial workflows cannot afford hallucinations or instability. So we embed multi-layer checkpoints, deterministic overrides, and hybrid stacks (AI + rules) to keep the infrastructure fault-tolerant and explainable. Think of it less like a “GenAI platform” and more like an AI-augmented assembly line, modular, observable, and purpose-fit.
Q4. You describe yourself as a ‘lifetime learner.’ What’s one mind-blowing non-tech thing you’ve learned recently that changed how you look at the world?
Recently, I dove deep into how children learn languages and abstractions, not through explanation, but through environment, repetition, and connection. Watching my 2-year-old grasp complex ideas without instruction made me reflect on how even adult learning should be experiential, not instructional.
It’s made me redesign how we on-board engineers: fewer decks, more sandboxes. Less theory, more building. In both parenting and engineering, learning sticks when it’s lived, not taught.
Q5. Rewind to your first tech job, what advice would present-you give to that younger version, especially about leadership or prioritization?
I’d tell him: “Don’t mistake speed for progress.” Early in my career, I prided myself on being the fastest coder in the room. But speed without clarity leads to rework, burnout, and shallow impact. Real leadership is not about doing more, it’s about enabling more.
I’d also tell him to pick fewer battles but fight them well, whether it’s about system design, tech debt, or hiring. Focus, in leadership, is the highest currency.
Q6. How has mentoring changed your own perspective on growth?
Mentoring has made me unlearn heroism. Earlier, I believed my job was to solve the hardest problems. Today, I believe my job is to create the environment where the team can solve them, sometimes better than I would have. Watching someone I mentored grow into a better system designer or product thinker is deeply humbling.
It’s also taught me to listen more than advice. The best mentors don’t give answers; they ask better questions. That shift, from being a problem-solver to a perspective-shaper, has changed how I grow too.
